I had a weekend!

Apr. 28th, 2008 | 06:40 am

First, Harold & Kumar: Escape from Guantanamo Bay: I was kind of disappointed. Possibly only because I have been looking forward to this movie SO MUCH since a trailer first appeared on the internet. I felt like the humor was less clever and subtle. But then again, I am talking about Harold & Kumar, and I'm not sure how subtle the comedy really was in the first one. Christopher Meloni's cameo should have been longer. But it was funny. Not as funny as Strange Wilderness.

Second, Saturday was packed full with an amazing engagement party for two very lovely people, and a Metafilter meetup that was tons of fun. Meeting new people is fun! I spent some quality time with Miss T-Po yesterday watching Coupling (the British one), and it was entertaining.

And now, I have a librarian rant. But I'll cut it for you! librarian rant! )

Ok, last week for, like, two days there were girl scouts in the T station shilling cookies. And they were kind of loud and obnoxious, as little girls in groups tend to be, so I ignored them. But now I needs me some peanut butter chocolate girl scout cookies. And there are no girl scouts to be found. I actually went onto the web site and entered my information into their cookie finder database. I have no pride left.

And it reminds me of

Saturday afternoon I spent 2.5 hours at kung-fu, part of which was taken up by my level 2 test. I passed! I didn't do as awesome as I had hoped, but I passed, and am now officially Level 2. Yay!

Also, Michael Clayton was a freakin' awesome movie.

Today: dim sum and more kung-fu tonight.

Ah, summer weekends, how I love thee. Thursday night we did Trivia Night at the Newtowne Grille in Porter Square. I seriously thought that the place would be so sketcy and townie that we would have a lock on first place, but alas, for other young post-collegiates also thought the same thing. One of our teams came in 4th, though, which is something. I am so loving the idea of doing our own trivia nights at our place once the kegorator is up and running.

Friday night Drew & I used a gift card we had for Vinny Testa's to get a mostly-free dinner, then we headed to the theater for War of the Worlds. I actually really liked the movie, but then again, most of you know I have horrible taste in movies anyway. I was terrified and clutching onto Drew's arm for most of it. It helps that aliens are my number two fear, second only to spiders (I guess that's good, as spiders are actually real, and aliens are… probably not all that real. But I'm gullible! And easily led to believe crazy conspiracy theories! It's one of my charms!). That night I had a post-apocalyptic nightmare that the city was burning down, not because of aliens, but because a rum factory in town exploded. I don't even know if rum is even made in factories, but the dream was scary and involved a lot of running around and eventually having to kill a man, 'cause, you know, he was trying to take my stuff.

Saturday we enjoyed a loverly bbq in celebration of [info]cosmicserpent's birthday. There were sausages and meats, and some friends announced that they just got engaged. The Old Married Club is expanding. Yesterday was completely given over to laziness and lolling about. So that was that.

Dear Modest Mouse:

It was one thing when I heard a song from The Moon & Antarctica in a car commercial. I could deal with that. The Target ad pushed me a bit more over the edge. But you were Modest Mouse, and I've loved you for so long, you deserved to finally make some hard-earned cash. But now, you have allowed Float On to be included on the Kidz Bop 7 cd. Modest Mouse, that is it.

Uh, that's all I've got. Sin City was pretty cool. I liked the pretty ladies and the fact that the gore was unrealistic. The Otherside Cafe has seriously tasty sandwiches. I can walk from South Station to the Hynes Convention Center T stop in about half an hour. Grendel is being a very cute bunny today.

The woman who taught my legal research class just emailed me- she wants to put a copy of my final paper from that class on reserve for this semester. She said it was "outstanding." That's pretty cool. Now, actually finding my copy of that to give to her will be an entirely different story, as I have no idea if I still have the file floating around on my old computer.

Yesterday we watched The Hunting of the President, which was interesting. I didn't enjoy it as much as OutFoxed, and was hoping for more hard evidence of crazy right-wing conspiracies, but it was decent.

Well, I had a big weekend of doing absolutely nothing. Well, that's not entirely true. I lost 5 whole dollars on Friday night, because I totally suck at poker. But it was fun. Saturday, Drew & I braved the snow for a trip down to the South Shore to spend gift certificates. I got a shiny new crockpot, and our dinner is currently crockpotting away right now, so as to be ready when we get home. Then we vegged out completely. Yesterday involved even greater sloth, but it also involved Dodgeball, Anchorman and Carnivale. That's... well, that's about it.

We're back. Survived the blizzard that's currently raging outside- let me tell ya, it should not take 4 hours to get from Freeport, Maine to Somerville, MA. Had a good time up at my dad's, read most of The Red Tent, saw Spanglish, wherein Adam Sandler again proves that he really can act, and lazed about.

Now- mostly unpacked, tired, and going to be kicking back with some wine and some brainless tv. I am so not looking forward to getting up early tomorrow to drive the car back to the rental place in Harvard Square.

Dec. 20th, 2004 | 12:29 pm

So, we had a weekend there, didn't we?

Friday night we celebrated [info]bushidokelt's birthday at Boston Beer Works, where I made many a drunken call-out to [info]jawalter, challenging him and his Spread. We're in a Spread War. Heh. And yes, [info]theamazingjb totally kicked my ass in a "drinking contest."

Saturday we headed out to Waltham to see Sideways with Catherine & Brian. Loved the movie, really want to learn more about wine now. Am also insanely coveting C&B's house. Wow!

Yesterday I was in high putter-mode, and did groceries, laundry, baked cookies for the landlord, wrote out some Christmas cards, and roasted a pork tenderloin. I am a domestic goddess. Uh...

Still on the hunt for some place that has the frickin' dress I need to try on for the wedding. Gah! There is no place in New England that has the damn thing in stock. At this point I'm going to have to convince my dad to order it online sight unseen, and if it doesn't fit, send it back.

Last night one of my favorite Christmas specials was on. The one with the mice and the clock and the singing... Tee-hee.

This past weekend was very, very lazy. Had a fabulous time at the Second Circle Yankee Swap party. So fabulous that by the end of the night, I was sleeping on [info]jawalter's bed. It was late, and I was sleepy. On Saturday, Drew & I spent the entire day watching movies. Seriously, all day. Bubba Ho-Tep, Elf, and Envy were amusing, Chronicles of Riddick was... not exactly my cup of tea, and OutFoxed was anger-inducing. Sunday we ran errands and were super-productive around the house. It's nice to have weekends like that once in a while.

Wow. Is it me, or is it really weird to see 1990 as the year that a livejournaler was born? I need to stop reading the bunnyowners community, as there are too many spacey teenage girls on there who don't know how to (or don't care to) take care of their critters. Don't get a pet if you don't want to be responsible for it! Though I will admit that the idea of a bunny eating an entire box of Girl Scout cookies is a little amusing.

I had such a screwed up dream last night, but it did not involve vampires or silly vampire-puppies. Blade: Trinity was an entertaining romp.

Nov. 8th, 2004 | 09:27 am

Uh, still groggy. Had the strangest hard-to-wake-up-from dream this morning. It started with me being back in college, working at the library, seeing all sorts of folks I haven't seen/thought of in so long. But I wasn't me from then, I was me from now, as I was catching up with people and telling them I'm engaged and talking about the bunnies. Then I went home, and it was my old house, where, for some reason, I was listening to a Haitian radio station and drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee. Then I was on a beach with Drew and Jessica Simpson, because Jessica Simpson was trying to show us her husband's new house, which was in a cave on the beach. Um, yeah.

Now I'm reading The Note and The Hill online and thinking too much about politics.

The weekend was quite, quite good. There was a party and some comedy and a movie. Next weekend there are so many movies to see! So many! Who's with me for Bridget Jones? Hugh Grant and Colin Firth! There's also SpongeBob, and National Treasure (which does demand hidden flasks of booze, as it'll be an enormous crapfest).

This weekend was so kind to my wallet. Thank you, weekend. Friday night we grabbed 1/2 price dinner and $4 pitchers of PBR at Jacob Wirth's, then "Sky Captain..." Saturday was spent shilling beer at Oktoberfest. Well, I got to play Banker and was fielding change and big money instead of beer; that, coupled with my lack of a lip ring, meant that only 2 very persistent young men chased after me all night. They weren't as bad as the guy who wouldn't leave. Sheesh. I know we're all cool people, but this guy was kicked out of the building at the end of the night at least 5 times. Oktoberfest is awesome because people give us tips. Tips are awesome. I actually made money this weekend. Yesterday Drew & I took care of our various shopping needs (i.e. I bought groceries, he bought a computer game), then vegged out for the rest of the day.

I really want this book.

First off, Happy Birthday to [info]c_m_i!!

This weekend was so fantastic. I am pleased.

Friday night we grabbed some dinner with Catherine & Brian, then saw Open Water. It's not so much scary as it is uncomfortable. 90 minutes of feeling squidgy.

Saturday, after our landlord came downstairs and puttered about with our plumbing, we met up with [info]komos and [info]wisdom_seeker for breakfast, then headed out to Leominster for a Birthday Pool Party. Pool parties are much fun. There was meat, pie, and cupcakes. Everyone loves cupcakes!

Yesterday Mere & Jeremy came down from Maine, so I spent the day with them, Tenille, and Meg & Allastair.

Yay!

Am home sick today. Given that when I left the office yesterday, my boss said "see you Thursday," I feel no guilt. Plus, am actually pretty sick for real. But I've got tea, will read more of "Guns, Germs & Steel," will do laundry, and will in all hopes be better by this evening, as I'd like to be social, though I'm not sure exactly what that being social will entail. Beer Club is at Rock Bottom, and I do so love the Rock Bottom. I really want to see Garden State and am considering going to that, it's actually playing at the Boston Common theater now....

So this is what a Saturday really feels like...

Had a blast last night getting curry and then hitting the Tiki Room. I'm so glad you all could come out, I love the feeling of sitting at a huge table surrounded by such awesome peeps. I also love pina coladas. Sorry we jetted early, but I'm feeling so very rested and pleasant that I think it was well worth it to do so. Can I also say that I really hope this newfound feeling of financial security actually lasts, 'cause I really like that for the first time in my life I don't have to feel guilty about buying unnecessary extras at the grocery store, and may even be able to buy some unnecessary new cds.

Oh yeah, if you're interested in catching Anchorman for either the first or second time tomorrow, drop me a note so I know to include you on the planning.

Now I'm going to make pasta salad, chocolate banana bread and mango-banana frozen yogurt. I have a crapload of organic bananas to use up.

Jul. 11th, 2004 | 04:38 pm

There's nothing like spending all day at a law librarian conference for a good self-image boost. Damn, next to all those folks I am Teh Hotness. It is very bizarre to be in a profession where 30 year olds are the young ones; I look more like someone's kid at this thing than a real librarian (and I'm even dressing in my frumpiest adult clothes). Oh well, this means I'm closer on the path to taking over, since it seems that most people in this field are about truly ready to retire (unlike the academics, who I think tend to attract most of the fresh young blood). I had to stop for some shopping sanity after leaving this afternoon. Thank the lord for H&M, I got 3 new shirts for $33, and am currently about as de-frumpified as I can get while still wearing clothing. I will admit that I'm learning stuff, and it's valuable for the networking, I'm actually meeting people (today's crop was much nicer and way more sane than yesterday's).

Oh, and I forgot to mention: Anchorman is the funniest movie you will all summer, so if you haven't seen it: Go!

I'm so pleased with how this weekend turned out that I'm not even sad to be heading to work this morning. Friday night I succeeded in filling my needs for both delicious curry and hanging out. Saturday Drew & I headed up to my dad's wife's camp in Maine for some wholesome family barbeque time. My stepmom's family is just so normal and sincerely nice that it kind of weirds me out a bit. Or maybe it was the lack of beer at a barbeque. We got to dangle our feet in a pretty lake and see Lake Bunganut (heh). Thanks to the hospitality of [info]ms_ntropy and her mom, we got to bask in a pool, eat too much food, and have an excellent time with a bunch of excellent people on Sunday. I didn't even feel too squidgy about wearing my teeny-bopper bathing suit. Yesterday I killed a lot of brain cells, but not by drinking. Alan, Tenille and I had a little movie marathon wherein we watched The Perfect Score and Eurotrip; the former being a big old pile of crap, the latter being one of the most hilarious films I've seen in a while. I also made some super-tasty chocolate zucchini bread that might just be my new favorite thing ever. All in all, it was a solidly great weekend.

Jun. 27th, 2004 | 05:46 pm

What a satisfying weekend. Friday night was spent with good company and lots of music. Yesterday we saw Fahrenheit 9/11 with Catherine & Brian and [info]bunnyroo and her man. There was a crazy lady outside the theater after the showing who was yelling about how much she hates Bush. Then she was going off about how Clinton wasn't so bad and started yelling "have sex, not war! have sex as many times as you want! Twice a day!" It was amusing. Then some people dressed as Revolutionary War-era folks (complete with a little drum!) came by with flyers about ousting our unelected President. Heh. I thought the movie did a good job of showing what appears to be incontrovertible evidence that the government has royally fucked up. The scenes from Iraq were horrific and gut-wrenching, which I also think is good for people to see, as the news only shows a very sanitized version of what's actually going on. We later met up with the A-Dot for dinner at Bukowskis and a showing of Napoleon Dynamite. Good lord, that movie is hilarious. I was in stiches the entire time. You must see it! Today we met up with Miss Tenille and [info]ms_ntropy for some lunch and Shrek2, which was also most enjoyable. I am content. Now I've got to wait for my brother to get back from the Sox game and try to convince him to give me a ride to the grocery store.

Jun. 13th, 2004 | 10:08 pm

Today has been such a productive day. Did groceries, made trip to Brooks for non-grocery household items (though slightly foiled, as I went before the pharmacy opened), did laundry, another trip to Brooks for anti-baby pills, made some strawberry-rhubarb tart and then dinner, read, watched the Simpsons, and watched the highly anticipated season premiere of Six Feet Under. I think SFU has earned the right to be called the best show on television ever, beating out my long-standing #1 of My So-Called Life. I cried at the end, not for anything specific, just the reminder of mortality in general. *sniff* It was a damn good episode, everything they do is just so well-written and well-played.

So yesterday we finally saw Harry Potter 3. I liked it, but not really as much as the first 2, although I think this was the best film of the three. It was probably more the vague headached I had all day more than the actual movie that lead to that conclusion. Anyway, after that we hit Kowloons and tikied. Kowloons makes me insanely happy. Yay for Kowloons. Someday we have to try that Bali-Hai place that's off of 95.

Tomorrow morning I have my big important interview. I'm never nervous for interviews, but am really nervous for this one. Not so much for what I'll say, as I have an over-abundance of confidence for my ability to actually interview and speak about myself, but more for how I'll look. I think my looking too young is a big detriment (especially in a field where most people are 40+), and it's something I can't do a whole lot about. I'll wear businessy clothes and my nice suit jacket, and I'll try to get makeup to give me a few more years, but I'll still look like an 18 year old girl. Big shoes- huge heels will be a must tomorrow.

Back to my book!

Jun. 7th, 2004 | 08:15 am

This weekend was exactly what I needed- lots of downtime and relaxing. Friday night we met up with [info]ms_ntropy, [info]cosmicserpent, and Tenille for some tasty Jacob Wirth's food. They have a Guiness, vodka, cr?me de cacoa, and Bailey's martini that is absolutely to die for. So much deliciousness! It's technically not really a martini, but I am technically too much of a wuss to drink real ones anyway.
Saturday I worked for a bit in the morning, as is my wont (though I'm only doing one more Sat. morning this month, then I'm free and clear). I then headed to Allston for a bbq/baby shower. There's something so nice about sitting around outside with fire, meat, and good conversation. Left there at dusk, as I wanted to walk to Harvard and so wanted to avoid the sketchiness that is that part of Allston at night. Went home to find Drew fiddling with the computer, so I lazed around on the couch and watched Down With Love.
Yesterday involved cleaning the apartment a bit, running some errands, and more general laziness. I feel super rested and refreshed now, which is very nice indeed.

[info]ms_ntropy, have you seen this? I almost picked it up in a comic book store today, but was feeling indecisive.

Our day of hookey and trip to Salem was exactly what I needed today. I don't realize how constantly rushed and pressured I feel during a normal day, and a day without any timetable, schedule, or places to be was so relaxing. We hit the museum (free thanks to Fleet bank), had a leisurely lunch on an outside patio, rambled about the town, stopped in touristy shoppes, and visited a friendly little bar where a stranger started talking to us because of the book I was reading ("Kitchen Confidential," which I'll probably finish within a day, I can't put it down).

I just made a tasty dinner, and am going to chill with a book and the bunnies.

Feeling so very content.

Whoo-hoo!!!! What a fan-fucking-tastic time!

Beer Summit was awesome. I swear, I haven't been complimented or hit on so often in a long time. Pouring beer, talking to drunk people, and drinking beer = good times. Yaay!

Last night was also quite awesome, though it left me with a wicked hangover this morning. Went to the Black Rhino for some drinks with folks, then headed to Deadalus for [info]philbot's birthday. Excellent, excellent.

Tomorrow I get my IPod, and will be seeing "Love, Actually" at the Somerville Theater (probably the 4:45 showing), so drop me a line if you'd like to see the movie.

Jan. 20th, 2004 | 07:47 pm

Today was a much needed spur of the moment day off. [info]c_m_i called out, too, which made the idea of staying home all the more enticing. I finished building a dresser all by myself! It was a task that seemed beyond daunting when I started, and the structure is fairly shakey, but still, I didn't think I'd be able to do it, and I did it anyway. I'm really not good at making things with my clumsy little hands, but get a huge amount of satisfaction when I actually manage to suceed. Also spent a good deal of time cleaning the apartment, which was very much needed. It's been a day of puttering about.
Yesterday we finally went to see Big Fish with [info]komos. While I'm glad I saw it, I wouldn't say it's one of the best movies I've seen this year. I will say it was loads better than Cold Mountain (yawnfest). We then went down the street to the Skybar, where a lot of people turned out to see Boston's up and coming new indie band "Butterknife," featuring [info]philbot and some people I have yet to meet. Simply put, they rocked my socks off. I was seriously impressed.
Sunday we spent most of the day at [info]komos's place bottling up some beer. We left in the early evening so I could get along to Best Buy to get an IPOD, as I've decided I really, really want one. That plan is on hold for the moment, but will be put into motion soon.
On Saturday we went to the Beer Summit volunteer meeting and stayed for quite a while. Now I'm psyched to spend all day this coming Sat. pouring beer and watching drunk people.
Finally, Friday was Foxwoods Night. We gambled the night away with [info]alex_victory, [info]jawalter, and [info]archer823 and his significant other. I lost $30 in the slots and decided that was all I could afford to lose. Drew won $50 in slots and then went on to win $300 at Let it Ride. While I really dislike feeling like I just flushed perfectly good money down the toliet, I'm willing to give it another shot, if I can save up some money and not feel panicky about losing a little.
All in all, an excellent weekend. Whew. This week promises to hold more excitement, though it also includes the first day of class on Thursday. Save me now.

Well, my second Christmas in a row without snow went off well. Drew's fam was very nice; I managed to keep my elbows off the table, didn't break anything, and tried to not pick my nose, so I think I made a decent impression.

I absolutely fell in love with Georgetown and DC; should we end up moving down there I'll be quite pleased. Though some of DC is totally the sketch. We saw dinosaurs at the Smithsonian, a production of The Taming of the Shrew, and went out drinkin'. I am slowly getting better about flying, but not so much.

Huge enormous thanks to [info]komos who kept our bunnies fed and happy while were gone!!!

I can't believe I have to work tomorrow. There's a really bad zombie movie on right now.

Last night Drew & I went to see The Last Samurai, which I enjoyed way more than I thought I would. There were ninjas.

I also bought yet another history tome, this time about the Carrolls of Maryland, as I remembered that I am somehow related to them, according to my dad. The only Irish Catholic to sign the Declaration of Independence.... sounds right to me.

I never thought I'd say this but: Curse you Pabst Blue Ribbon!

Head pounding....

My delightful fruit cup is not helping matters. For some reason all I want is Meat. And Aleve.

I just bought new pants. Why am I enjoying The Gap so much lately? It's only 'cause their pants come in short sizes that are actually short....yes, that's it.

Am feeling so darn competent at work, though. I've been praised for being "so efficient."
I've also found the floor where all the really important lawyers work.

I saw a preview for a sappy looking romantic comedy that's full of lots of fairly decent actors, and I really want to see it.

Well, it was a weekend.
Friday night involved "watching" Freddy vs. Jason, but since I'm a wuss, I covered my eyes most of the time and peeked through my fingers. It wasn't even all that scary, and it was fairly amusing.
Saturday T. and I picked up Trevor, an old college friend, and trekked up to Vermont. Bridal shower-ness ensued, which involved watching Meg open a ton of presents. We then hit the town and checked out the hot streets of Burlington for her bachelorette party. It was definitely good to see my friends, as Anna and Meredith came down for the festivities as well. Nonetheless, Vermont is a long way to go in a weekend. We did manage to score a room for the upcoming wedding, and will be staying here.
Yesterday I ended up having a weekend's worth of fun upon returning in the evening. I've found my bar sport of choice, and it is DARTS. I *heart* darts. So yeah, that was a blast. I've also rediscovered my love of Pabst.
So that's that.

That was a splendid weekend.
Friday night was spent drinking, getting tasty Indian food, and drinking more. The nice old barfly at Redline who always says I have a nice smile and that I'm pretty bought a round for [info]c_m_i and I, thus cementing his status as "best barfly ever." Compliments and free booze, can't go wrong with that. Also got my hair cut before commencing with the drinkin', and I have to say that it's possibly the best hair cut I've gotten since moving to Boston. Hooray. Tonight will be hair-dying night.
Saturday Drew and I went to the Bookstore, and then checked out Johnny English, the new movie that combines Rowan Atkinson and spies; two great things that go great together. It was hilarious. I also particularly enjoy the "Inconsiderate Cell Phone Guy" clip before previews and can be found randomly saying "Mauled by a tiger?!" way too often. I'd watch an entire feature film about Inconsiderate Cell Phone Guy. Went back home and puttered about, then we headed to the Theater District for a fancy-pants night of Art. My dad gave me a couple of tickets to see the Blue Man Group for my birthday, and while I was skeptical about the idea of sitting for a couple of hours watching performance art, I figured it would be a shame to waste such expensive tickets. The show was not bad. Not something I'd ever want to spend my own money on, but an enjoyable night of entertainment.
Yesterday was officially a Lazy Day. Drew and I wandered around Somerville looking for a nice place to sit and read. Found said nice place and read.
And now, another week to face. But I'm feeling so recharged and rested that this is A-Ok.

What a fantastic weekend. I am satisfied.
Friday- Got a group together for my first trip to Redbones, haven of many kinds of barbequed meats. I had called ahead to see if I could make a reservation for us, but no. So we got there and were told the wait would be about 20 minutes, which is apparantly not bad. So we wait and we wait and we wait and we wait. And waited some more. It was at least an hour and a half later when we finally sat down, after being accosted by some street musician who loves Strong Bad. We then trekked up to Rudy's where many kinds of tequila were consumed. It was verra nice.
Saturday- Ooooh, ok, grabbed some lunch with people and then saw Pirates of the Caribbean. So Great! Shiver me timbers! tee-hee. I loved it. I will probably see it again when it hits the Somerville Theater. So excellent. After that, people even agreed to hit up the Tiki Bar with me (thanks, guys!). Swoon. It was a totally awesome day. After the Tiki Bar we headed for Jillians, I wasn't expecting to stay so late, but the company was good and the beer was flowing. Suffice to say that Saturday was slathered in awesomeness.
Today- My roomie was gone by the time I got home, so I've been puttering about. Did an extra long workout, cleaned my bunny's cage, let her romp about in her new exercise pen (from which she still desires sweet freedom), made a stab at cleaning my shower, did laundry, remembered to return a movie all the way back in Porter Square (and brought it back On Time, which is most unusual for me), and now I'm just going to laze about as I prepare for a bona fide Big Day tomorrow. Few hours of work, then I'll be off to interview, phone interview, and interview again.

Wow, so apparantly my dad is getting married this summer. That's big news, but also happy news, as his girlfriend is super nice.
Big thanks to all who came out last night, it was a very enjoyable time! Sorry that the dancing place turned out to be sucky, you win some you lose some.
Had an excellent day today hanging around with [info]c_m_i. We saw Winged Migration, per [info]komos's suggestion, and it was a mighty fine film. It had lots of pretty birdies. Tenille met us for some tasty dessert products, then T. and I came home to read Harry Potter and relax.
So tomorrow I am off for my big adventure.
I will be in Portland, Oregon until Wednesday, at which point Meredith, Jeremy and I will drive down to Cali to Lucas and Christine's. Berkeley for a night, Davis for a night, and San Fran for a night, and then I shall return, completely broke and exhausted. Here's hoping it goes off without a hitch! See you all in a week!

I will not be compulsive about email today. I've even turned my cell phone off (though that's mostly cause if I don't the battery will die before the day is out).
Matrix=Eh. I didn't particularly like or dislike it all that much.
This weekend I'll see Down With Love and that'll be awesome. I have a bit of an Ewan McGregor thing.

Despite the constant sound of sirens, it's actually really pleasant right now to just sit here with the windows open, a breeze coming in, and sangria in hand. As I've said before, there's a really pretty tree outside my window and I like it. I may even make use of my window seat.

So yesterday involved a whole lotta girl-on-girl action filmic adventures. Really, I mean a lot. I met up with Rachel to catch "The Politics of Fur", part of the MFA's Gay and Lesbian Film Fest. It was ok. Not the greatest, and would have been a lot better if they had cut out the last 20 minutes. The short film before it, though, "Truckstop Binge Babes" (or something like that) was great. I think it was either German or Swedish, and was really hot. Then I headed over to 2nd Circle where we watched some Rebecca Rojmin-Stamos movie (dunno what it was called) that seemed to have a vaguely exasperating plot, and then "Bound" which is one of my all-time favorite movies.

So, on an unrelated note, we appear to have an ant problem in our apartment. I remember my parents using bay leaves to combat ants when I was little, and am trying this rememdy. Anyone have any other suggestions? We can't use chemicals, as we have critters that sometimes wander and it would be unfortunate to kill the guinea pig or bunny with ant poison.

The Cowboy Junkie's cover of "Sweet Jane" is ethereal. I love how it reminds me of sticky-hot summer nights sitting on the porch at Holland Street, smoking cigarettes and drinking Pabst.
Today is a good day.
Going to see The Politics of Fur with Rachel at the MFA this evening, and then I shall be prowling for further fun, as the movie is pretty early.
A moth just flew by my desk. I don't suppose that's a very good thing, since it'll probably try to eat some books. Though they don't seem to be very tasty books, so the poor critter will probably have to find sustenance elsewhere.

music: Promise Ring- Is This Thing On

what a highly enjoyable weekend. laughed my ass off at Old School on Friday. remembered the importance of not drinking on an empty stomach. sat- walked around both aimfully and aimlessly in the sunshine. drank a whole lotta sangria and margarita, and had a fabulous time at Redline. yesterday- recharged. i found some tea at the grocery store that claims to detoxify the liver, so i drank a bunch of it, i'm not really sure if it worked, but hey, at least i wasn't drinking more alcohol. which segues into... i'm on spring break! whoo-hoo! this week is going to kick it.
am very excited for wednesday to come, as i have a job interview! my current job ends at the end of august, so i've been diligently sending out resumes, and got a bite from the one job i've seen thus far that i actually would really want to do. besides, i just love going on interviews. all you do is sit there and talk about how great you are to an audience who just wants to hear, um, how great you are. so much fun! i've been told i'm very odd for enjoying interviews this much. i must get it from my dad, he applies for jobs for fun and goes on interviews once in a while just to stay in practice. he also switches jobs every handful of years. this explains a lot about my career attention span.

you stop and i'm in overdrive

music: elliot- drive onto me

i am so damn corny sometimes. as i've been fairly brain-dead all day due to last night's super-festivities (it was a most excellent time, my friends are all so great, we become an entity all our own when together) i rented a few movies (also due to the fact that my roomie went home today and i didn't want to be bored and lonely tonight). so i watched Almost Famous. there's something about the story that i really like, it's that tangible pleasure of listening to music that you just love. sometimes there's nothing better than a great album. and i hate to admit it, but Tiny Dancer has such a feel-good-coming-down-from-acid vibe in the movie.

i'm trying to remember when i became an extrovert. it's something i rarely notice, but the moments when i'm actually by myself come so few and far between that it seems startling and jarring to actually occupy space without sharing it with someone. it's one of the reasons that i really enjoy having a roommate, i don't think i could live by myself at this point, i'm so used to surrounding myself with at least one other person. the odd thing is that on those personality tests i used to come out consistently as an INFJ, but now i highly doubt there's much about me that's introverted. i don't mind me-time, and actually highly value it, but i've defintely gotten used to the me-time involving other people, whether it's wandering around the city alone or sitting around the apartment with various and sundry roommates who might be doing their own thing as well. i think what strikes me is a contrast: i used to spend most of my time alone because...i just did. i did my thing. since at least junior year of college that started to change, and it certainly has come full circle since moving to boston. i guess that's what happens when your living space must accomodate others. i generally tend to go out of my way to surround myself with people, and thus get kind of weirded out by the lack of others in my space.
i'm babbling. it's wine-in-a-box. and cheesy movies. i hope Love Mummy downloads before i have to sleep.

Went to see Bowling for Columbine, and am still trying to articulate my thoughts on it. Being rather hopelessly, naively idealistic, I feel profoundly disappointed with American society. But then again, if nothing else, I feel more dedicated to trying to actually -do- something. I had been thinking of skipping the rally on Sunday at Boston Common, but now can't in good conscience miss the chance to at least feel like I'm doing a little something with my opinions. Besides, Howard Zinn and Jill Stein will be speaking.
Well, my roommate just called, nixing tonight's plans to go to this party at one of her friend's places... which is just as well by me, drinking and merriment can be had at home for less hassle. There is much to be said for living with a good friend, when we get extra lazy, at least we can entertain each other.
