Man, I hate turning down Evites, and I just had to turn down 2 fabulous events. These next 2 weekends are absolutely full to the brim for me. Beer Summit is this weekend, so that pretty much kills anything else that could happen. Though I do have Patriots Day off next Monday, so that's good. Have to head up to Maine the next weekend. I really need to visit my dad, and maybe feel like I'm contributing something to this wedding, since I haven't done much at all yet. My book is so good, I just want work to end so I go back to reading about the Viking invasion of England. Hee. It's helped to fix my mind's timeline about pre-Middle Ages Europe, which prior this, was a bit fuzzy. This author has also written huge books about the history of London and Russia, which will be next on my list. Hooray for nerdy historical fiction!

Sarum, by Rutherford. It's a history of the town around Stonehenge, starting from the way-back caveman times, going to... sometime way after that. It's really quite good, you can borrow my copy when I'm done with it. His writing style is a tad weak, and he blugdeons you with not-subtle foreshadowing, but it's fun.

Awesome, sounds like just my kind of trashy historical fiction :)

Oh, I believe I own a novel called London by him, but I'm not sure it's the same guy. I haven't read it yet...bought it in 1998 or so. Hmmm...

So is this guy's stuff kind of like James A. Michener's novels? If so, that could be cool. I like his stories a lot, even if I don't actually finish the book every time.

It is Michneresque, but Michner's prose is much nicer. I went through a crazy Michner phase in junior high, Texas was my all-time favorite.
