Pumpkin cake in the oven on a fall day is among the best things ever. Walked all over creation today to obtain litter for the bunnies, but it was gorgeous out, so it was well worth the trouble. I think fall makes up for miserable New England winters; it's such a sensual time, so many smells and sounds and sights all popping out.
There's a John Wilkes Boothe special on tv, and it reminds me of the "It Wasn't Me" JWB montage. Heh.
Apologies to
cosmicserpent and
starflow for sucking out on the plan to go dancing last night. I left the Beer Summit volunteer thingy to come home for dinner, and my limbs were too heavy with sleep to get it together to head out again. I haven't been sleeping well lately, but that's not a great excuse.
Yesterday I did manage, though, to find The Dress. Now I'm a little kurfuzzled, as The Dress is way more expensive than I had hoped (even on discount web sites), and I'm not sure if it's within my dad's price range. We'll see. It's very purty.
I also owe some kudos to
tenillypo for lending Good Omens to me. I'm not terribly far into it, but so far it's amazingly good. Thanks!

*shakes head* I never, ever thought I'd get suckered into the world of the wedding industry. But it's happened.

BTW, glad you're liking Good Omens. It's a quick read, but a vastly entertaining one. Next, we'll have you reading Discworld!

Looks like I'll probably be able to get what I want (though I'd be happy enough with one that looks like #1 Dress, so I'm not going to fuss if it's too pricey). I'm thinking that I'll probably cave on the flowers, 'cause people want something to do with their hands... sheesh. Suppose it can't hurt =)

how about candles, or hurricane lamps (if it's outside), or fans, or... herb bouquets instead of flowers?

1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted
Filling:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
To make the cake: Combine all of the ingredients and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan. Prepare filling.
To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mix well. Spread pumpkin mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.
Serve with fresh whipped cream.
Variations: For a Pineapple Gooey Cake: Instead of the pumpkin, add a drained 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple to the cream cheese filling. Proceed as directed above.
For a Banana Gooey Cake: Prepare cream cheese filling as directed, beating in 2 ripe bananas instead of the pumpkin. Proceed as directed above.
For a Peanut Butter Gooey Cake: Use a chocolate cake mix. Add 1 cup creamy peanut butter to the cream cheese filling instead of the pumpkin. Proceed as directed above.

The Dress is Maggie's "Olympia." I have an email in to Pearl's Place, and my dad actually did say that if I really want it, I can have it (so not used to hearing that!)
