Pumpkin cake in the oven on a fall day is among the best things ever. Walked all over creation today to obtain litter for the bunnies, but it was gorgeous out, so it was well worth the trouble. I think fall makes up for miserable New England winters; it's such a sensual time, so many smells and sounds and sights all popping out.

There's a John Wilkes Boothe special on tv, and it reminds me of the "It Wasn't Me" JWB montage. Heh.

Apologies to [info]cosmicserpent and [info]starflow for sucking out on the plan to go dancing last night. I left the Beer Summit volunteer thingy to come home for dinner, and my limbs were too heavy with sleep to get it together to head out again. I haven't been sleeping well lately, but that's not a great excuse.

Yesterday I did manage, though, to find The Dress. Now I'm a little kurfuzzled, as The Dress is way more expensive than I had hoped (even on discount web sites), and I'm not sure if it's within my dad's price range. We'll see. It's very purty.

I also owe some kudos to [info]tenillypo for lending Good Omens to me. I'm not terribly far into it, but so far it's amazingly good. Thanks!

If his little girl loves it, you'd be surprised what a dad can do :) Good luck!

How very prescient of you- I just found out how true that is!

*shakes head* I never, ever thought I'd get suckered into the world of the wedding industry. But it's happened.

Well he's probably just so relieved you're not sticking with the Elvira dress that he'll pay anything for your pretty princess dress. Hee. Good plan there, chica!

Hee. I'm a tricksy one! I actually think the boob one would've looked pretty bad on me anyway.

Well, maybe not bad, but definitely not as good as the one you picked.

BTW, glad you're liking Good Omens. It's a quick read, but a vastly entertaining one. Next, we'll have you reading Discworld!

I agree that the new dress is very pretty. Glad that you found something you like. So your dad said ok then? I still can't picture you girls out buying wedding dresses. I continue to chuckle at the irony. How are your other plans coming? You mentioned flowers in your email. Does that mean you gave in on them too?

Hee, hee. I think the girl at the dress store was freaked out by me, I just popped a dress on, said yea or nay, and hopped out of it. We were there for all of a half hour.

Looks like I'll probably be able to get what I want (though I'd be happy enough with one that looks like #1 Dress, so I'm not going to fuss if it's too pricey). I'm thinking that I'll probably cave on the flowers, 'cause people want something to do with their hands... sheesh. Suppose it can't hurt =)

how about candles, or hurricane lamps (if it's outside), or fans, or... herb bouquets instead of flowers?

Hmmm... I had been thinking herb bouquets for centerpieces, but that's an equally good idea for carrying.. plus, the bunnies can eat the leftovers! Good thinking!

Cake:
1 (18 1/4-ounce) package yellow cake mix
1 egg
8 tablespoons butter, melted

Filling:
1 (8-ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 (15-ounce) can pumpkin
3 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
8 tablespoons butter, melted
1 (16-ounce) box powdered sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

To make the cake: Combine all of the ingredients and mix well with an electric mixer. Pat the mixture into the bottom of a lightly greased 13 by 9-inch baking pan. Prepare filling.

To make the filling: In a large bowl, beat the cream cheese and pumpkin until smooth. Add the eggs, vanilla, and butter, and beat together. Next, add the powdered sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and mix well. Spread pumpkin mixture over cake batter and bake for 40 to 50 minutes. Make sure not to overbake as the center should be a little gooey.

Serve with fresh whipped cream.

Variations: For a Pineapple Gooey Cake: Instead of the pumpkin, add a drained 20-ounce can of crushed pineapple to the cream cheese filling. Proceed as directed above.

For a Banana Gooey Cake: Prepare cream cheese filling as directed, beating in 2 ripe bananas instead of the pumpkin. Proceed as directed above.

For a Peanut Butter Gooey Cake: Use a chocolate cake mix. Add 1 cup creamy peanut butter to the cream cheese filling instead of the pumpkin. Proceed as directed above.

I finally was able to try mine on. See the link in the [info]weddingplans post.

Yours is so pretty! You look absolutely lovely in it.

The Dress is Maggie's "Olympia." I have an email in to Pearl's Place, and my dad actually did say that if I really want it, I can have it (so not used to hearing that!)

OMG you're kidding me?? Olympia was the dress I was going to get before I changed my mind at the last minute. My dress is really the same cut, just different detailing.

Crap. I don't have my notebook with me. Hang on, I'm going to email you. I was this | | close to ordering Olympia, so have all sorts of pricing info.
